About Us

Wulfsbane American Bullies is a small, in-home breeding program in Southeast Nebraska doing our best to bring well-rounded companion dogs into the lives of our customers; focusing on health, conformation and versatility in the American Bully breed. We began breeding in 2016; began showing in UKC conformation in 2018, ABKC conformation in 2020, and BRC conformation and sports like FastCAT and dock diving in 2021.  We have never stopped learning conformation to better improve our breed and breeding program, and we raise our puppies using advanced puppy raising protocols like Puppy Culture and Avidog. We value extensive health testing and titling of our dogs to ensure we are breeding sound and healthy dogs to bring joy to our customers' families for many years to come.

One of our most important goals is to send every puppy home fully prepared for their new life. This includes being desensitized thoroughly for everyday life with various sounds, scents and textures; and being socialized with adults, children, and other dogs. We make an effort to send our puppies home to the best family for them, by using our Volhard puppy aptitude test scores and general day-to-day observations to choose which home will suit them the best. Whether you are looking for a pet, sport, or show dog, we can find the right dog for you!

Why do we health test?

The best way to ensure we are breeding the healthiest dogs possible is to first establish that our parent dogs are healthy. This gives them the best chance at passing down those traits into their puppies. Since this breed was not founded with health in mind and very few dogs are health tested, even currently; many breeders who are health conscientious are beginning with some failing orthopedic scores with goals in mind to breed to healthier dogs and improve health scores by generations. Not only do we hope to establish a line of dogs clear of genetic diseases, we also hope to establish a line that consistently passes and scores well in all health testing provided by the Orthopedic Foundation for Animals (OFA) and PennHip. This also means we encourage the owners of our puppies sold to companion homes to health test their dogs to contribute to breed averages. Health testing contributes to research on the longevity of the dogs, so they can live long, healthy lives with their families!

Why do we show?

Conformation shows were originally developed to allow breeders to have their dogs evaluated by well-informed, experienced judges against a written standard for their breed. The goal for breeders should always be to get as close to the written standard as possible. Of course, every dog has flaws, but getting as close as possible to the standard of your breed should be your top priority. This includes: structural soundness, correct temperament, and healthy animals. Written below are snippets derived directly from both versions of the American Bully standard, ABKC and UKC.

Breed History

The American Bully breed developed as a natural extension of the American Pit Bull Terrier. The APBT has maintained a characteristic appearance and temperament for over 100 years. As with any long-standing breed, several types evolved from the parent breed, with one in particular taking on a specific build and structure that is so unique it was wise to recognize it as a different breed altogether. That being the American Bully breed.

The American Bully breed was subtly influenced by the infusion of several other breeds, which include the American Bulldog, English Bulldog, and Olde English Bulldogge.

The American Bully breed was recognized by the United Kennel Club on July 15, 2013.

GENERAL APPEARANCE

The American Bully breed is recognizable by its characteristic compact, strong, thick-set structure and build. The overall balance and correct proportions of an athlete are essential, and absolute soundness and proper muscle tone is a must.

Head properties are in proportion to the body, reasonable, and free of exaggeration so as to not compromise breathing and/or obstruct normal vision.

It is a smooth coated dog that possesses great strength for its size. Although quite muscular, it is active and agile. Its presence is a picture of tremendous power and stamina that belies its kind and loyal temperament.

CHARACTERISTICS

The American Bully is a companion breed exhibiting confidence, a zest for life, along with an exuberant willingness to please and bond with their family, thus making the American Bully an excellent family companion. Despite the American Bully’s fierce and powerful appearance their demeanor is gentle. They are great with kids, and extremely friendly with strangers, other dogs, and other animals. Human or dog aggression, extreme shyness, or viciousness is very uncharacteristic of the American Bully and is highly undesirable.

*Derived from both UKC and ABKC Standards for the breed.
